Introduction

Hello, today I want to talk to you about the largest ovarian cyst that we have operated on at Creafam. The world record is 26 kg, ours weighed 5 kg and measured more than 35 cm. It seems to us that there are interesting situations to show you and we always have something to learn from each case. Remember that knowledge is power.

About our patient

This is a patient who contacted us by video call. She lives in the United States, her family is in Veracruz, so she gave us the information via video call. She had been diagnosed with a giant ovarian cyst and she finally decided to come to Mexico to undergo diagnostic studies. We performed tomography, tumor markers, and clinical evaluation and confirmed that it was a giant tumor of the left ovary. Subsequently, with all this information she returned to the United States to plan her time to return to surgery.

We have different types of ovarian cysts and depending on their appearance we can suspect the histological type, for example, very large tumors with a liquid but dense content we can suspect that they are mucinous cystadenomas or serous cystadenomas, specifically the case of our patient was the suspected diagnosis with which we came to surgery and was finally confirmed by the pathologist.

After the first diagnostic visit in February, we finally organized the surgery for the month of May. When it arrived we realized that the tumor had grown even more, from about 20 to 25 cm, as it was already over 30 cm. The increase in volume of his abdomen, the sensation of weight and all the symptoms were noticeable.

The previous diagnostic tests indicated a benign tumor, however, precautions were taken and at the time of surgery we had an intraoperative biopsy performed, in order to confirm that it was a benign tumor, and with the support of a surgical oncologist. Confirming that the tumor, despite its size, was a benign tumor, we finally finished the surgery with an excellent subsequent evolution.

Interviewing Diana our patient

My name is Diana, I am 25 years old, a long time ago I began to notice a lump in my abdomen and I started looking for information on social networks, and I found a clinic called Creafam on Facebook.

So I made an appointment and we made a video call and I started talking to the doctor about my symptoms and everything I was feeling and he guided me, so I made an in-person appointment at his office which is located in Veracruz, Boca del Río… And I came, they did the corresponding tests, they did an evaluation and an ovarian tumor was detected, and it was already very large and I needed surgery due to the size it had. So they scheduled my surgery and now I am currently a week into surgery, my tumor measured 5 kg and I feel very good after the surgery. If you have a problem like this you can visit this clinic, they can help you and the truth is that it is worth it.

Medical tourism and virtual consultation

It is curious that it has been more profitable for this patient to come from the United States on two occasions, one for diagnostic purposes and the other to solve her problem, however, we want to convey that the important thing is to have an entire support structure in different types of problems like these.

We have virtual consultation, it is an excellent tool to guide your case, whether it is ovarian tumors, fibroids or, above all, patients with reproductive difficulties. It is important that you know that, whether in person, if you live near one of our clinics or virtually by video call, at Creafam we have all the strategies to support you to solve gynecological or reproductive problems.

This cyst was so large that it looked like a pregnancy, but in the hands of experts, there are always options to preserve fertility and health.
