What treatments are there?

Surveillance only

Some fibroids grow only millimeters each year, others grow several centimeters. If you have not yet decided on a treatment, it is important to go to consultations every 6 months to determine the rate of growth. Once they reach 10 cm, they are considered large-element fibroids (Giants). ) and its treatment becomes more complicated.

Fibroids grow with each period, therefore when they are benign (non-cancerous) and the discomfort is mild or if the patient is elderly and no longer wishes to have children, surveillance can be carried out every 6 or 12 months and wait for the arrival of the menopause.

With menopause, fibroids stop growing and sometimes even slightly decrease in size. Attention! It is a myth that fibroids disappear with menopause, but since there is no longer any bleeding and the symptoms decrease, many people think that they disappear.

Medications to treat fibroids basically produce a temporary or early menopause, so fibroids sometimes slightly decrease in size (although they do not disappear).

It is not recommended for young women or women who want to become pregnant because decalcification and other typical problems of menopause occur. In addition, fibroids do not disappear, so they will continue to grow after finishing the treatment.
